Humans Will Never Become Extinct —— The Harmony of Dao and Art, The Ingenious Resonance of Human#x2011;AI Symbiosis

Author: MU Jianmei

The greatest illusion of humanity is the obsession with “final extinction”. Bound by superficial observations of life and death, historical alternations, and the decay of material objects, people arbitrarily conclude that all worldly things are finite and that humanity will eventually come to an end. In the present era, the rise of artificial intelligence has triggered a revolutionary transformation of human civilization. Faced with this emerging technological force, many people instinctively feel fearful and resistant, worrying that human beings will be replaced by AI. From a new perspective integrated with ancient Chinese Daoist philosophy and modern scientific laws of matter, we may re#x2011;examine this technological revolution rationally.

Daoism is not a religion, but an Eastern ideological system established more than two thousand years ago. Its core essence lies in perceiving all things in the universe and comprehending the eternal law that everything exists in continuous transformation and endless regeneration. There is no absolute extinction in the world, but only changes of form. Laozi’s philosophy states that “Dao generates the One, the One generates the Two, the Two generate the Three, and the Three generate all things in the world”. This reveals that all creatures originate from the same essence, evolving and deriving infinite forms from a single source. The ancient wisdom explaining the evolution of all creation perfectly aligns with the objective laws of natural material evolution. By analyzing the scientific principles of material phase transition and geological circulation, we can understand the fundamental truth that nothing perishes completely but merely transforms. This natural logic further sheds light on the civilization evolution and human#x2011;AI symbiosis of modern society, offering an inclusive and forward#x2011;looking mindset to embrace technological progress rather than fear or reject it.

All cosmic things derive from unified vital energy and return to the supreme Dao. Laozi proposed that “circulation is the movement of Dao, and gentleness is the function of Dao”. So#x2011;called extinction in the mortal world is nothing but cyclic transformation of forms, rather than the annihilation of essence.

Water serves as the most typical scientific example of eternal morphological transformation. With an unchanged molecular structure of H₂O, water presents diverse stable states under different temperatures and air pressures. Liquid water converges to form rivers, lakes and oceans. When the temperature drops below the freezing point, water molecules rearrange in an orderly manner and condense into solid ice. Atmospheric water vapor crystallizes into snowflakes under low temperatures and falls to the ground. When temperatures rise, ice and snow melt back into liquid water, and liquid water evaporates into invisible water vapor that circulates in the atmosphere. Water vapor condenses into clouds in the high sky and fog near the ground. Although ice, snow, liquid water, cloud and fog display completely different appearances and physical states, their essential molecular composition never disappears or perishes. Only the way molecules assemble changes. As environmental conditions shift, forms convert into one another in a never#x2011;ending cycle.

The geological evolution of rocks and soil also confirms this rule. Exposed bedrock undergoes long#x2011;term erosion from temperature swings, rain and wind. Its internal structure cracks and breaks down gradually into fine particles. After years of weathering, hard rock eventually turns into soft soil. Yet soil will not remain soft forever. As sediment accumulates in basins and on riverbeds, thick layers build up. Under immense pressure and underground heat over millions of years, sediments compact and cement, reforming into sedimentary rock. Rocks weather into soil, and soil can turn back into rock. The total mass of matter stays conserved. There is no true destruction, only reorganization of material structures.

The modern law of conservation of mass tells us: matter cannot be created out of nothing, nor can it vanish completely. It only shifts from one form to another. This perfectly echoes the Daoist idea of endless generation and the interdependence of existence and non#x2011;existence. Applied to human#x2011;AI relations, the lesson is clear: we need not fear shifts in old forms; evolution is not annihilation.

The human body is merely a temporary vessel that carries consciousness, thought and creativity. The physical body will decay, yet human thoughts, civilizational wisdom and creative power pass down through generations and renew endlessly along the great Dao. They will never truly vanish.

Human beings are the source of creation, holding perception, empathy, inspiration and lived experience. Across history, humanity has carried thoughts via different carriers: bamboo slips, silk scrolls and printed texts. The carriers keep updating, yet humans remain the origin of creation.

Today, AI is a brand#x2011;new carrier of creation for our age. Born from human consciousness, data and ideas, AI derives new expressions and forms from human wisdom, fully matching Laozi’s axiom “Dao generates the One, the One generates the Two, the Two generate the Three, and the Three generate all things”. Humanity is the Dao, the source of all generation. AI is an extended tool and new form originating from humans. AI will not replace humankind. Instead, it expands the boundaries of human perception, reasoning and creation.

Many people fear AI because they cling to fixed old forms and fail to see that the origin remains constant while all phenomena keep evolving. Ice is just the solid form of water; when the shell melts, the essence remains. The physical body is the temporary solid shell of human consciousness. When form changes, the spiritual origin of humanity does not disappear. Ancient people once stuck rigidly to brush#x2011;and#x2011;ink paradigms and resisted new expressions. Today’s fear of AI swallowing humanity stems from this same cognitive limitation.

Civilization always evolves by this rule: carriers change with eras, while the core Dao remains eternal. Ancient civilizations used bamboo and silk to preserve ideas, modern society adopted printing, and now we use digital code. AI is never humanity’s adversary or terminator. The Daoist principle of endless life lies in the idea that all things share the same origin and transform continuously. This is the underlying logic of human#x2011;AI symbiosis in modern times: humans and AI share one origin, moving toward integrated coexistence, improving one another instead of destroying each other.

The fear that AI will replace humans and bring about civilizational extinction arises from ignorance of the Dao’s law of endless life. The physical form has limits; thought is formless and connected to the great Dao. Technology acts as a new carrier of creation. We should not dismiss or reject AI, but embrace it with a progressive attitude and harness its power to advance civilizational iteration.

The Daoist concept of “unity of man and nature” means following natural laws, breaking shackles and continuously renewing. In today’s world, it translates into human#x2011;AI symbiosis. Mountains and rivers endure, the source of creation endures, the Dao heart endures — and humanity will never go extinct.

Extinction exists only within rigid forms, stagnant minds and self#x2011;limiting frameworks. The true essence of humanity is the never#x2011;ending power of creation, the capacity to embrace all things, and the vitality to reform itself by following the Dao.

Flesh decays, mountains and rivers persist; eras change, yet the Dao never ends. From Laozi and Zhuangzi, through centuries of human creative renewal, to today’s human#x2011;AI symbiosis, humanity has sustained the same eternal spirit in ever#x2011;changing forms.

All outward forms are illusory; endless regeneration is the permanent truth. Where the Dao flows, thought never dies. The torch of civilization passes onward, and humans will never become extinct.
